AAA Kickstarter Campaigns
As a part of DDM’s efforts to support its partners’ Kickstarter campaigns, DDM tracks the performance of video game campaigns that have grossed over $1 million on Kickstarter alone. Based on the 24 campaigns that have successfully ended to date (excluding active campaigns), we pulled some interesting averages to share.
- With over $57 million raised and nearly 926,000 backers across the 24 campaigns, the average amount of money raised per backer is slightly under $62.
- The initial goal for a campaign is approximately $771,000 with nearly 39,000 backers and a gross revenue of $2.4 million.
- Underscoring the importance of a strong launch, the total money raised in the first five days of a campaign is approximately 40% of its final gross, compared to 26% in its final five days.
- In comparing revenues from reward tiers to the Kickstarter total, 95% of the Kickstarter revenue is directly tied to reward tiers with the remaining 5% a result of increased pledges (merchandise add-ons, international shipping costs, etc.).
- Not only is it important to capture a wide range of pledge tiers below $75, where a campaign receives the majority of its backers, but it is also important to capture higher pledge tiers such as $100+, $200+ and $500+ levels where more revenue is generated.
