The Project & Studio Financing Snapshot October 2024

First released in July 2024, we continue the quarterly release of our business gauge for two primary funding methods for development studios. The intelligence from our Representation Service team assesses current and future opportunities for project financing, while the intelligence from our Investment Services team and our data from the DDM Games Investment Review ground the landscape for studio financing.

Overall, the industry has tightened its belt in a ‘COVID investment spree’ hangover. Project financing remains low as fewer publisher slots are available, review pipelines are full of available games, and publishers want to derisk projects. Studio investments emphasize early-stage funding and acquisitions focus less on content and more on increasing bandwidth and building capacity. Studios are producing realistic budgets and valuations as well as improving their company financials. Our outlook for both project and studio financing is slight warming as companies across the industry prepare their budgets and strategies for 2025.
